Dream Vacation - 4 stars

Trying to decide where to go on vacation can be one of the hardest decisions to make. There are so many gorgeous beaches and lovely sights to see; it is hard to choose just one place to tour and relax. For most people, factors that go into making this decision include how much money the trip costs, what the weather is like, and most importantly, what to do once you get there. If one had all the money they needed to spend and wanted to enjoy someplace warm with many activities, Bora Bora would be the place to go. Bora Bora is one of the most beautiful and exotic places in the world and due to its many fun things, great island culture, and amazing food, it is the reason why Bora Bora is my dream vacation.

Bora Bora is a small South Pacific island northwest of Tahiti in French Polynesia known for its gorgeous beaches and glamorous sights. There are many great activities to participate in such as the jeep safari, shark and ray snorkeling, and many private tours of the island itself. On a jeep safari, one can visit three villages and four lookout points while enjoying an adventurous ride in a jeep and tasting exotic fruit. This is also a great way to learn about the historical site where U.S. Army cannons remain from WWII. Shark and ray snorkeling may seem dangerous to some, but it is actually completely harmless. One will arrive at a stunning coral reef where he/she be given the tremendous offer to snorkel in clear and shallow waters. On this tour, one can get up close and personal with the sharks and stingrays by feeding them either from the boat or under the water beside them. During one of the many private tours given at Bora Bora, one can expect to experience a traditional ‘Coco Show’ where a tour guide will retrieve fresh coconuts and demonstrate how to open them. One will also be given the opportunity to relax on a deserted beach while the tour guide prepares a delicious and nutritious meal. As you can see, there are several adventurous things to do and numerous stunning sights to view.

The Tahitian culture has a lengthy and opulent history. Migrating Polynesians were the first to settle on the islands in 500 BC. France eventually colonized them sometime after the 16th century. Captain Samuel Wallis was the first documented explorer to discover Tahiti, but it was Captain James Cook who in 1769 named Bora Bora, Tupai, Huahine, Taha’a, Moorea, and Raiatea the Society Islands. The Tahitian’s vibrant and rich culture included Polynesian artistry with weaving, woodcarving, and tattooing. This is grounded in the mythology of their heritage. Intriguing stories about love, life, and a persistent relationship with nature are told by these blessed traditions. Tahitians love celebrating these customs through art, song, and dance. They live by the words “aita pea pea” meaning “not to worry”. Tahitians are lighthearted, energetic people who enjoy sharing their beautiful culture with others.

When on vacation, there is always the worry about what to eat, especially if you’re in a different country. Going to new places with new cultures a tourist may run into some odd eating habits but not in Bora Bora. Their food is not only traditional but extremely tasty and will have you coming back for more. One of Bora Bora’s most extravagant dishes to eat is the sushi. Bora Bora is an island; therefore, there is an abundant amount of fish. What better dish to eat while on vacation? A more popular French dish served there is Foie Gras- a liver mixture seeped in purple eggplant with spices. It is a wonderful dish for newcomers to try. Bora Bora is also well known for its tasty desserts such as Tahitian Vanilla Panna Cotta. This desert is made from an Island-

grown, orchid-producing vanilla extract and prepared with fresh cream and sugar. The most popular dessert on the island is Banana or Papaya Puree due to its delicious baked sugar and coconut milk ingredients. Tahitian fruit pudding is a very tasty dish to try, as well. There are several amazing dishes to try. I’m sure anyone would love them all. Bora Bora is a wonderful place to travel with the stunning sights, amazing culture, and delicious foods making it the ultimate place for a dream vacation. When I get the opportunity, Bora Bora will undoubtedly be the first place I travel. This luxurious island is definitely on my bucket list.

Wow…here we are at the end. At the beginning of the semester, this was one of the classes I was least looking forward to. And I know that’s not the best way to start an evaluation, but hang in there b
